Upgrading Your Phone System

Upgrading Your Phone SystemHaving trouble handling your growing call volume? Experiencing dropped calls? In need of new features to help your business function more smoothly? It might be the perfect time for an upgrade.

Upgrading your phone system can seem like a daunting task, but the benefits may prove to be well worth the effort.

The basic units of the phone system come down to the base unit, the actual phones, and add-ons. To make it easier, telephone companies provide bundles which include all of these for a more affordable price. The trade off is tailoring it to your company, but you can usually work with the sellers.

However, building your own bundle with features you specifically want and need may be more feasible for some. If that is the case, starting off with the right base system will determine whether the upgrade is good or great. With a new base system, you will be able to add more features and possibly expand your lines according to your growing business needs.

The system you choose will depend on the features you desire and the size of your company. For the larger scale companies, a PBX (private branch exchange) system will be beneficial. The PBX systems host an easily expandable system, an array of features and can reduce expenses. For the smaller scale companies, the Key system may be more ideal. While they have less capacity than the PBX, they possess enough for smaller companies and are less expensive. You can choose to have a KSU (key system unit) where the phones are all connected to this base unit. There are also KSU-less systems for even smaller companies, with 10 or less employees. With these, they are fairly inexpensive and easier to install, uninstall and move. The downside is limited phone types and features.

Another alternative is trying a VoIP system. VoIP (voice over internet protocol) uses broadband internet connection and specialized IP phones. The prices may be higher, but phone bills will drop noticeably. Calls are faster and clearer and more impressive features are available.

With any phone system you purchase be sure to keep in mind that you want to be able to keep communication clear and easy; the more available you are to customers the more your business will grow.
